A Content Calendar Is Your Posting Plan
A content calendar fixes that. A content calendar is simply a plan of what you will post, when, and where. That is all. It can be a Google Sheet, a notebook, or a table in Google Docs. You decide your posts once, ahead of time, so you are never scrambling.
In this lesson, every post on your calendar will have 5 parts: a topic, a hook, a caption, a format, and a call to action. Once you understand these 5 parts, you can plan content for yourself, for a business, or for a client.
Consistency Beats Last-Minute Brilliance
A content calendar helps you in four ways. It saves time, because you can create several posts in one sitting instead of thinking from scratch every day. It reduces stress, because you always know what is next. It keeps your content balanced, so you are not only selling or only posting random things. And it makes you look professional, because businesses and clients love seeing a clear plan.
If you ever support a business with their social media, the content calendar is often the very first thing they will ask you for. It is one of the most useful practical skills in this whole course.
The 5 Parts of Every Post
Before you plan: two quick decisions
With your audience and pillars clear, choosing topics becomes easy: every topic sits under one pillar and speaks to that audience.
Choosing your format
Hook formulas you can reuse
- The mistake"The #1 mistake people make when [doing something]..."
- The question"Do you know why your [thing] keeps [problem]?"
- The number"3 things I wish I knew before [experience]."
- The before/after"From [problem] to [result] in [time]. Here is how."
- The secret"Nobody tells you this about [topic]..."

The caption column is left out here to keep the table readable. In your own Google Sheet, add a Caption column and write the full caption for each day.
Plan a Week for a Business You Choose
Then follow these steps. First, write down your audience and 3 to 4 content pillars. Second, decide which platforms you will post on. Third, plan your 7 days using the 3-2-1-1 mix. Fourth, give each day all 5 parts: topic, hook, caption, format and call to action. Fifth, use AI to help with ideas and captions, then edit everything so it sounds human.
Lesson 19 Assignment
- 1
Choose your business: Fill in Part A of the workbook with the business, audience and pillars.
- 2
Set up your sheet: Create a Google Sheet called "7-Day Content Calendar: [Business Name]" with these columns: Day, Date, Platform, Type, Pillar, Topic, Hook, Caption, Format, Call to Action, Status.
- 3
Draft with AI: Use Prompt 1 to generate a first draft, and Prompt 2 to improve your hooks.
- 4
Edit and check: Review every row with the checklist in the Practical Task tab. Make sure the mix is 3 educate, 2 engage, 1 promote, 1 personal.
- 5
Create one post: Turn one day from your calendar into a finished post (design or video plus caption) and save it in your Content folder in Google Drive.
A Week of Content, Planned and Ready
Keep your Google Sheet. Each week, duplicate the tab and plan the next 7 days. After a month, look at which posts got the most likes, comments, saves and messages, and plan more of those.
In Lesson 20, we go one step further with an introduction to digital marketing. You will learn how content moves people from first noticing you to trusting you and taking action.
- Business, audience and 3 to 4 content pillars written down
- Google Sheet set up with all calendar columns
- 7 days planned with topic, hook, caption, format and call to action
- Content mix checked: 3 educate, 2 engage, 1 promote, 1 personal
- One post created and saved in Google Drive
Lesson 19 Student Workbook
Build Your 7-Day Content Calendar
Part 1: Set Up Your Sheet (15 minutes)
- 1
Open Google Drive, go to your Content folder, and click New, then Google Sheets. Name it "7-Day Content Calendar: [Business Name]."
- 2
In row 1, type the column headings: Day, Date, Platform, Type, Pillar, Topic, Hook, Caption, Format, Call to Action, Status.
- 3
Make row 1 bold, click View, then Freeze, then 1 row, so your headings stay visible as you scroll.
- 4
For the Status column, select the cells, click Insert, then Dropdown, and add three options: Planned, Created, Posted.
Part 2: Draft and Edit with AI (45 minutes)
- 1
Open ChatGPT or Claude and run Prompt 1 with your business details. Ask for the result as a table.
- 2
Copy the table into your Google Sheet. Run Prompt 2 on any hooks that feel weak, and Prompt 3 to write fuller captions.
- 3
Go through every row and check it against the list below. Edit anything that does not pass.
- Every day has all 5 parts: topic, hook, caption, format, call to action
- The week follows the 3-2-1-1 mix
- Every topic fits one of my content pillars
- Facts, prices and details are correct (AI did not invent anything)
- Captions sound like a real person, not a robot
Part 3: Create One Post (30 minutes)
- 1
Pick one day from your calendar. Create the design in Canva or record the short video.
- 2
Add the final caption and call to action. Save the design and caption together in your Content folder.
- 3
Optional: schedule it using Meta Business Suite (free for Facebook and Instagram), and change its Status to "Posted" once it goes live.
