Module 1: Your Digital Foundation Lesson 1 of 3 8 to 12 min

Welcome to the
Digital World

What digital skills actually are, why they matter for your real life and career, and what you will be able to do by the time you finish this course.

Define digital skills clearly Name your digital struggles Set your learning goals
1What Is It?

What Are Digital Skills?

Open with this
Welcome to the Go Digital With Dee Academy. I am so glad you are here.

Before we get into anything, I want to ask you a simple question. Think about the last time you felt completely stuck. Not because you were not smart enough, not because you were not willing to work. But because you did not know how to use a tool. Maybe you wanted to apply for a job and could not format your CV properly. Maybe someone asked you to send a file and you did not know how. Maybe you wanted to start something online and you kept staring at the screen not knowing where to begin.

That feeling is what this course is designed to remove. Permanently.

Define the Term
💡
Simple definition Digital skills are your ability to use digital tools confidently to do something useful, for your personal life, your work, or your business.

Notice what that definition does NOT say. It does not say you need to know how to code. It does not say you need to be a software engineer or a tech person. Digital skills are practical. They are about using the tools that already exist to get things done.

2Why Do I Need It?

Why Digital Skills Matter Right Now

Speak with energy here
Here is the reality. The world has moved online. Jobs, clients, business opportunities, income, a massive portion of all of it now lives in the digital space. If you cannot navigate that space confidently, you are leaving opportunity on the table every single day. Not because you are not capable. But because nobody showed you how.

4Let's Do It

How This Course Works

Let me walk you through exactly how this course works so you always know what to expect.

  • 1

Every lesson has a video. Watch it from the beginning. Do not skip ahead. Each lesson is short (8 to 15 minutes) so stay with it.

  • 2

Every lesson has a practical task. This is not optional. The task is where the real learning happens. Watching without doing is like watching someone swim without getting in the water.

  • 3

Every lesson has a workbook page. Fill it in. Your workbook becomes your proof of learning and a record you can refer back to.

  • 4

Every lesson has an expected output. At the end of each lesson I will tell you exactly what you should have created. That is your proof the lesson is done.

  • 5

The final project brings everything together. You will create a real portfolio piece that proves your skills and that you can show to employers or clients.

5Now You Try

Pause and Reflect

Pause the video here and speak directly
I want you to pause right now (yes, literally pause this video) and think about three things. What are the digital tools you currently feel uncomfortable using? What is one thing you wish you knew how to do online? And what would change in your life or career if you were confident with these skills?

Write your answers in your workbook before you continue. This is the starting point we will measure your growth from.
6Your Task

Lesson 1 Assignment

📋
Your task for this lesson Complete the Lesson 1 Workbook page. List your current digital struggles and write your learning goals for this course. Save your workbook in your course folder before moving to Lesson 2.

This should take no more than 10 minutes. But do not skip it. The students who fill in their workbooks are always the ones who finish the course and get results.

7What Did You Create?

Your Output for Lesson 1

Close the lesson with this
By the time this lesson is done, you should have one completed workbook page with your digital struggles listed and your goals written down. That is your Lesson 1 output. Save it. You are going to look back at this at the end of the course and see exactly how far you have come.

Well done for starting. See you in Lesson 2.
  • I watched the full Lesson 1 video
  • I listed my digital struggles in my workbook
  • I wrote my learning goals for this course

TTask

Your Digital Starting Point

⏱️
Time: 10 to 15 minutes Output: Completed workbook page saved to your course folder. This task has three parts. Do all three before moving to Lesson 2.

Part 1: Set Up Your Course Folder

  • 1

Open Google Drive (drive.google.com) or a folder on your computer

  • 2

Create a new folder called: Go Digital With Dee, My Course

  • 3

Inside that folder, create a subfolder called: Module 1, Digital Foundation

  • 4

Inside that, create a folder called: Lesson 1, Welcome

🧠
Why this matters Organisation is a digital skill too. Students who organise their course from Day 1 always finish and find their work easily at the end.

Part 2: Fill In Your Workbook

  • 1

Open your Lesson 1 Workbook (the Workbook tab above)

  • 2

Fill in every field honestly, your struggles, goals, and confidence rating

  • 3

Take your time. There are no wrong answers.

  • 4

Save or print your completed workbook page

  • 5

Move the saved file into your Lesson 1 folder

Part 3: Answer Check

Confirm all six before you move to Lesson 2:

  • My course folder exists and is named correctly
  • My workbook page is fully filled in with no blank fields
  • I have listed at least 3 specific digital struggles
  • I have written 3 clear learning goals
  • I have circled my confidence rating (1 to 10)
  • I have saved the workbook in my Lesson 1 folder
🎓
Lesson 1 Complete!
If all six boxes above are checked, you have successfully completed Lesson 1. You are ready for Lesson 2: Your Essential Digital Toolkit.
